What coach Madugu told Super Falcons at halftime that overturned result against Morocco

Super Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu, has revealed how belief, tactical changes, and resilience helped his team overturn a 2-0 deficit to defeat Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final.

The atmosphere in the stadium was electric, with the home crowd roaring behind the Atlas Lionesses.

But inside the Falcons’ dressing room at halftime, Coach Madugu delivered a powerful message.

The coach also made two crucial tactical substitutions early in the second half, bringing on Omorinsola Babajide and Jennifer Echegini to add pace and creativity to the attack. The effect was immediate.

Esther Okoronkwo pulled one back for Nigeria in the 57th minute, giving the team hope. Shortly after, Folashade Ijamilusi equalised with a powerful strike that silenced the Moroccan fans. The decisive moment came late in the game when substitute Jennifer Echegini completed the comeback with a well-placed finish to make it 3-2.Nigerian history books with the win, Nigeria claimed their 10th WAFCON title , cementing their place as the most successful team in the tournament’s history.

The victory was not just about tactics—it was about heart, belief, and a halftime message that lit a fire in the team.
