The victory, dubbed “Mission X” by the team, reaffirmed Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football while denying Morocco their first-ever continental crown in front of a fervent home crowd.

Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses struck early, with captain Ghizlane Chebbak opening the scoring in the 13th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to fire past goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.
The hosts doubled their lead in the 24th minute through Sanaa Mssoudy, whose clinical finish sent the 21,000-capacity stadium into a frenzy, putting Nigeria on the ropes.
Undeterred, the Super Falcons clawed their way back into the contest. In the 64th minute, Esther Okoronkwo converted a penalty to halve the deficit, igniting hope for Nigeria.
Seven minutes later, Florence Ijamilusi leveled the score with a composed finish, restoring parity and shifting momentum.

As the match neared extra time, a lengthy VAR review in the 84th minute denied Morocco a potential penalty, keeping the score at 2-2.

Under coach Justine Madugu, Nigeria showcased resilience and attacking depth, with eight different players contributing goals throughout the tournament.
Despite a relatively quiet campaign from six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year Asisat Oshoala, players like captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Okoronkwo, and Echegini stepped up in critical moments. The team’s defensive solidity was equally impressive, conceding just one goal from open play across six matches.
The match, a rematch of the dramatic 2022 semi-final where Morocco edged Nigeria on penalties, lived up to its billing as a clash of African football titans.
