Eleven teams have qualified to move on to the second round in the maiden edition of Anambra Super 8 football tournament which kicked off on Monday, February 1, 2021.
Spearheaded by the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), the tournament was officially kicked at NEROS Stadium Nanka by the sole sponsor of the tournament, President of Aspire FC, Ubaka Patrick Okeke.
The day featured matches at various venues in the state which include, NEROS Stadium Nanka, Awka township stadium, ANSPOLY football stadium, Mgbakwu as well as Ikpeazu stadium in Onitsha.
Some of the results of the matches played had Smithcity Awka FC defeating Global City FC Umunnachi with one goal while Rangels FC scored two winning goals against John Paul FC that scored one goal.
Other match results include, Big-T Global FC Umunya beating Ozala FC with a lone goal while Golden Boys FC Onitsha got three points as walkover against Emmy King Nsugbe.
Similarly, Hark Dove Awka FC scored 7 goals through penalty to defeat Young Africa FC Nawgwu which scored six goals.
Uncle Ralph Isuanaocha scored four goals to send home their counterpart Ogene FC Obeledu which score two goals, even as MEKON FC Umunze recorded 2 goals against 1 to defeat Ajali United.
DOSAD FC Enugwu-ukwu trashed their opponent, Amawbia United with 2 goals against 1 while Solar Spiders Nibo scored nil against Peace FC Awka.
Solar Spiders 1 score sent Peace FC parking, Ifechukwulu FC 1-0 Nasco Int FC, Solar Spiders Nibo 0-2 Peace FC Awka, and DOSAD FC Enugwu-Ukwu that used 2 to 1 to thrash Amawbia 8oop.
In an interview with the Chairman, Super 8 Organising Committee, Prince Oliver Ndigwe, he said that the tournament is aimed at discovering, nurturing and developing talented footballers from the grassroots with a view to making them world champions.
Prices for the first, second and third position of the tournament which will end in March were categorised thus: N500,000, N400,000 and N200,000 respectively.
