There is something remarkable whenever the name "Okija" is mentioned. Okija is not only the largest town in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, it is the oldest of all the towns in the same local government area.
Made up of 34 villages, Okija rank among the biggest towns in Igbo land, as well as accounting for some of the richest individuals in the South East, including Chief (Dr.) Ernest Azudialu Obiejesi, the founder and CEO of Obijackson Group, who is a famous son of Okija.
Lagos being the hobnob of business, politics and other social activities in Nigeria, expectedly, is home to thousands of Okija indigenes who converge under the umbrella of Okija Town Union (OTU).
When they got together to choose credible individuals who will be saddled with the responsibility of taking the union to a new level, the turn-out was tremendous.
The election, which goes down in the annals of the OTU as the fairest and freest, saw the following officers elected:
- Sir Philip Obi - President
- Barrister Fred Obiejesi - Vice President
- Steve Obiakor - Secretary General
- Izuchukwu Ojeanalonye - Treasurer
- Paulinus Obidimalu - Finacial Secretary
- Basil Efuna - Public Relations Officer
- Sam Okeke - Provost 1
- Onuora Ujubuonu - Provost 2
In their acceptance speeches, the Sir Philip Obi-led executive pledged to join forces and take the union and Okija to sublime heights.
They also paid tribute to the outgoing President, Sir Lawrence Ukachukwu, and his team for steering the ship of the union to a memorable height, thereby leaving their footprints in the sands of time.
