Prof. Arinze-Umeobi Formally Takes Over As UNIZIK Acting VC

Prof. Carol Arinze-Umeobi, has formally assumes office as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka after a handover ceremony on Monday at the University Administration building.

Arinze-Umobi received handover notes from the outgoing Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ifeanyichukwu Ikechebelu.

The erudite family lawyer who is on a second missionary journey will pilot the affairs of the university in the next six months.

It will be recalled that the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University appointed Arinze-Umobi as Acting Vice-Chancellor following the end of tenure of Ikechebelu.

A letter signed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Barr. Olugbenga M. Kukoyi, reads “By virtue of Section 5(13) of the Act, your term of appointment shall not exceed a maximum period of six (6) months, or until a substantive Vice-Chancellor is appointed, whichever comes first”.

Senate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University on May 16 nominated through election three Professors (Prof. Au Nkemdilim Nonyelu, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umeobi and Prof. Ada Sam-Omenyi) as possible replacement for the outgoing Acting Vice Chancellor.

The Governing Council from the three nominated candidates appointed Prof. Arinze-Umeobi as the Acting Vice Chancellor.
