Victor Osimhen has finally responded to the growing social media campaign by Galatasaray fans urging him to extend his stay at the club, following his record-breaking exploits in Turkey, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Nigerian striker, who recently netted twice in a 3-0 Turkish Cup final victory over Trabzonspor to help Galatasaray lift the trophy for a record 19th time, has been the subject of widespread speculation regarding his future.
His name began trending online after fans launched the #StayWithUsOsimhen movement on X (formerly Twitter), urging the Napoli loanee to remain in Istanbul beyond the current season.
With 35 goals this season and a new club record for most goals scored by a foreign player, the Super Eagles star has become a cult hero among the Galatasaray faithful.
His goals, assists, and overall work rate have not gone unnoticed, making him the focal point of a passionate online movement to persuade him to stay.
Addressing the issue for the first time after the final, Osimhen expressed his appreciation for the support and the ambition he encountered at Galatasaray, though he remained non-committal on his future.
Despite rumours of interest from clubs in England and Italy, as well as the challenge of his high salary, Galatasaray fans and management remain hopeful. Osimhen’s words suggest admiration and respect for the club, though a final decision on his future remains to be seen.
“I really can’t stand the fans. I have to make a big decision at the end of the season. I want to thank everyone for what I’ve experienced during this process. I’ll make my decision at the end of the season.
“I try to help with my goals, my assists, by doing everything I can on the field. And when I help the team, it makes me very happy. We can say that we have done 99% of the job. Let’s see, in our last match, we want to fight and complete it as well,” the 26-year-old star said.
He acknowledged the collective strength of the team in achieving their goals this season and highlighted the unity and ambition that has defined the club since his arrival.
“Big congratulations to the team. When I came, what they made me feel directly was that our goals were clear,” he said, praising the team spirit and competitive mentality he met in Istanbul.
He added that Galatasaray is not only a club with a storied history of trophies, but one with a relentless drive to achieve more. “Galatasaray is a team that has a lot of cups, and at the same time, a team that wants even more.”
Speaking about the Turkish Cup triumph, Osimhen credited the victory to the team’s collective effort rather than individual brilliance.
“I don’t think that I win the matches myself, that I bring the victories. We achieve this as a team with my teammates,” he said.
He stressed the significance of their upcoming league decider against Kayserispor, which could see Galatasaray secure their 25th Super Lig title and complete a domestic double for the first time since the 1998/99 season.
“On Sunday, we will fight for every ball, we will put up an incredible fight,” Osimhen said.
