Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) leaders Plateau United suffered a 0-1 defeat at Enyimba in a tight contest on Sunday.
The story was not pleasing for the champions Enugu Rangers either as they had to fight back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against Nasarawa United in front of their supporters at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
Andrew Abalogu scored the winner for Enyimba in the 69th minute to despatch Plateau United. The Peoples Elephant moved into fifth place with 34 points following the win.
Thomas Zenke stunned Rangers when he opened scoring for Nasarawa United with 15 minutes to time from Adamu Hassan's assist.
Nasarawa United's lead lasted for only five minutes as Godwin Aguda levelled matters for the Flying Antelopes to share the points. Rangers are now in 16th position.
Two goals from Nyima Nwangwa for Kano Pillars against his former club Lobi Stars secured a 2-1 win for 'Sai Masu Gida.' Uchenna Eze's 85th minute goal for Lobi was too little, too late.
A solitary strike by Adebayo Waheed on 19 minutes helped MFM FC to a 1-0 win over FC Ifeanyiubah.
MFM are now in second place with 37 points, two behind leaders Plateau United while FC Ifeanyiubah have dropped to fourth from second.
ABS FC left it late before they saw off Niger Tornadoes 2-1. Mohammed Mohammed and Martin Ossy scored for ABS while Abdullahi Wakili's goal came in between.
Ismail Gbabayan and Festus Umanah scored a goal each for Wikki Tourists as they eased their relegation worries with a 2-1 win over El-Kanemi Warriors. Efe Yarhere scored a late goal in the 87th minute for El-Kanemi which proved insufficient to avoid defeat.
Katsina United had to rely on Sani Nasiru's spot kick before half time to edge Abia Warriors 1-0.
Quickfire goals by Salefu Oche and Ekene Awazie helped Remo Stars to a 2-0 success against Gombe United. The win ended the five-game run of Remo Stars without a win. The win for the Sky Blue Stars did not assuage their bottom place position but helped them cut the gap from safety to five points.
It was big relief for 3SC head coach Fatai Amoo as his team dug deep to grind out a 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars in the southwest derby. Ibrahim Ajani's seventh minute goal was enough for 3SC to claim a first win in four league games.
Amoo's team remain in the bottom-two despite their 1-0 victory on Sunday.
