Nigerian international Victor Boniface has emerged as a prime transfer target for Premier League side Newcastle United, with talks reportedly progressing well between the club and Bayer Leverkusen over a potential summer move.
According to Africafoot, discussions between the Magpies, the player’s representatives, and Leverkusen have been ongoing for several weeks. The outlet reports that significant progress has been made, with over 69 per cent of the agreement already finalised between the parties involved.
“Victor Boniface is attracting significant interest from Newcastle United, fueling speculation about a potential move next season,” Africafoot said.
“The Bundesliga may bid farewell to Boniface at the end of the current campaign. The Nigerian forward is on Newcastle’s radar, with the Premier League side reportedly in negotiations for several weeks with both the player’s representatives and Bayer Leverkusen.”
Leverkusen are understood to be demanding €50m for the striker. However, Africafoot explains that Newcastle has no issue meeting that valuation, suggesting the English club are willing and financially prepared to conclude the deal swiftly. The report adds that Boniface is expected to be offered a five-year contract should the transfer be completed.
“Talks have progressed positively, with agreements already reached on over 69% of the deal,” Africafoot added.
“Leverkusen are demanding a transfer fee of €50m, a figure that poses no obstacle for Newcastle, who are expected to finalise the deal soon. The proposed contract is reportedly a five-year deal.”
Having joined Leverkusen from Union Saint-Gilloise for just over €21m, Boniface has seen his stock rise considerably and is now valued at €45m on Transfermarkt. This season, the 24-year-old has recorded eight goals and one assist in the league after a reduced starting time in recent months under manager Xabi Alonso.
Africafoot also notes that Newcastle view Boniface as a strong candidate to fill a potential void in their attack, particularly with Swedish forward Alexander Isak reportedly considering a move away from St James’ Park. The report describes Boniface as an ideal replacement who possesses the physical attributes and finishing ability to thrive in the Premier League.
