Rivers United captain Temple Emekayi has urged his teammates to give an immediate response to their recent setbacks and return to winning ways in their next Nigeria Premier Football League game against Remo Stars on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports
The Pride of Rivers suffered a 1-0 loss to Bayelsa United on match-day 31 of the NPFL and that was followed by a surprise 2-1 defeat to Beyond Limits FA in the President Federation Cup on Wednesday.
Emekayi admitted the disappointment of their cup exit but emphasised that the team has plenty to play for in the league.
“I know it will take a little bit to get going again, but I think what we are playing for in the league is enough motivation for all of us,” he told PUNCH Sports Extra.
With Rivers United now eight points behind leaders Remo Stars, Emekayi stressed the importance of every game with the desire to win a piece of silverware at the end of the season.
“Every game now is so important, it has been for a while. It has been so tight and so competitive.”
“We want to win something, and that’s been the big goal. But I think we can’t look too far ahead; we have to take it day by day, and game by game.
“Remo Stars is next, and we have to get ready for the next game. Then we move on from there.”
Rivers United hosts Remo Stars on Sunday, April 6 in Port Harcourt, and a win will see them cut the gap on the leaders to five points, heading into the last six rounds of matches.
