Nwaneri breaks Saka’s EPL record

By Daily Sports Nigeria on February 17, 2025

Arsenal star Ethan Nwaneri has broken a Premier League record previously held by teammate Bukayo Saka during the Gunners’ 2-0 win over Leicester City.

Nwaneri has had a breakout season at Arsenal this campaign under Mikel Arteta as the 17-year-old has made 24 appearances for the Gunners in his first full season. The Basque coach has trusted the midfielder to play a major role for the North London side and the starlet has proved he deserves to be a big part of the season’s plans.

During Arsenal’s 2-0 Premier League win against Leicester City, Nwaneri became the youngest player to complete five or more dribbles and assist a goal in a single match, aged 17 years and 331 days as per OptaJoe. The record was previously held by Saka at the age of 18 years and 164 days against Newcastle in 2020.

Last month, Nwaneri also became the second-youngest Englishman to score in the Champions League after his winner against Girona on the last matchday of the Champions League league stage. In the same period, Nwaneri also became the second-youngest Arsenal player to score in the Premier League after Casec Fabregas.

Arsenal are seven points off Premier League leaders Liverpool in the hunt for the title and Nwaneri will play a major part in the Gunners’ hunt for all the titles this season.
