PDP to bring Peter Obi, Opposition in for 2027

By Daily Sports Nigeria on January 30, 2025

A member of the PDP reconciliation committee, Eddy Olafeso, has urged his party to engage Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other opposition leaders in discussions for a possible alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’sPolitics Today, Olafeso emphasized that no single party can defeat the ruling APC without a united front. He stressed the need for collaboration, citing examples from other countries, including Ghana, where alliances have been successful in winning elections.

Obi, a former PDP member, left the party for the Labour Party before the 2023 elections. He secured over six million votes but finished third, with many of his supporters believing he was unfairly denied victory. Olafeso lamented the PDP’s failure to maintain unity, attributing its 2023 defeat to internal divisions.

He argued that a joint effort among opposition figures, including Obi and former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, could have significantly altered the election outcome. According to him, their combined votes would have pushed APC’s Bola Tinubu to a distant second. Olafeso called for urgent reconciliation efforts within the PDP to build a formidable opposition capable of challenging the APC in 2027.
