The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its support for Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor as the party chairman in Rivers State.Ewor, an ally of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, took over leadership of the party, citing a judgement nullifying the congress held by the party in 2024, which was overseen by Minister of Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike.Fubara and Wike are at odds with each other over the control of political structures in the state. The party has, in a statement on Friday, said its decision is in compliance with the judgment of the Rivers State High Court and the provisions of the PDP Constitution, as amended in 2017.According to the party’s spokesman, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP has no choice but to abide by the court’s judgment, which nullified the Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses of the party in Rivers State conducted between July 27 and August 31, 2024.He said since the judgment has not been appealed, set aside, or stayed by any court of competent jurisdiction, the PDP is bound to respect it.The spokesperson also said the party’s decision is also driven by its desire to avoid a repeat of the painful scenario in Plateau State, where the PDP lost many seats won in the National Assembly and the Plateau State House of Assembly in the 2023 general elections due to non-compliance with a 2020 court judgment.“The PDP commends the leaders, critical stakeholders, members and supporters of our Party in Rivers State for working with the Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor-led State Executive to ensure the stability and continuous success of the PDP in the State.“The national leadership again charges the Ewor-led Rivers State Executive to continue to work harmoniously with the leader of the PDP in Rivers State, His Excellency, Governor Similanayi Fubara as he intensifies efforts in his massive delivery of good governance to the people of Rivers State in line with the manifesto and policy thrust of the PDP,” the statement added.
