Ghana international Thomas Partey reminds Premier League legend Jamie Redknapp of Patrick Vieira and Emmanuel Petit.
Partey produced a Man of the Match performance as Arsenal secured a 1-0 win over Manchester United in a Premier League match on Sunday.
The 27-year-old has now been compared with Vieira and Petit, who achieved legendary status at Arsenal.
Redknapp, who played for Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur during his playing days, praised Partey as a good midfield player.
“He’s a bit of a throwback. I don’t look at him as just a No. 6, a No. 8 or a defensive midfielder,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“I just think of him as a really good midfield player that can do everything.
Retired French midfielders Petit and Vieira were influential for Arsenal as they clinched the Premier League title and FA Cup in the 1997/98 season.
“I think back to the likes of Patrick Viera and Emmanuel Petit – that was the golden era. Arsenal had a desire and energy to get the ball back,” he added.
“They were better in every department. Gabriel was magnificent and Partey was the best player on the pitch. He looks like an incredible signing.”
Arsenal recently signed Partey on a long-term contract, after activating his £45 million (€50 million) release clause with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
He has netted 10 goals in 30 international matches for Ghana. (African Football)
