Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi says he is looking forward to returning to action in January after being sidelined with a thigh injury, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Ndidi has been out since sustaining an injury in their 2-2 draw against Brighton on December 8.
He has since missed four games which have all been defeats for the Foxes.
“I’m hopeful I’ll be back next year and next year is just in a matter of days,” the player said during a children’s party he organised on Boxing Day.
“I really can’t say precisely, I can’t put a date. I might think I’m ready but the doctors and physio could say I am not. But I hope to be back soon.”
The 28-year-old has four assists in 15 EPL games this season and stressed the importance of other players in the team in his absence.
“It’s okay to say this or that, everybody has an opinion. If we had won the game, the opinion will be different. So I feel the main thing is the team. No player is bigger than the team. We are in the phase of transitioning and we will get there as a group. When I was in, we lost some games as well.”
The midfielder is also confident that the Foxes can escape the drop this season while they are adapting under new coach Rud van Nistelrooy.
“We have the quality to remain in the league. Things are not going the right way now but we have the quality to get there with time,” he said.
“It’s going well. He (Nistelrooy) is an amazing manager with an amazing personality who is trying to put the team together. He’s building up from there and with time we will get his philosophy and win games. There are still many games to play and we are up for it.”
Leicester are currently 18th in the Premier League with 14 points after 19 games.
