CAF WCL: Edo Queens storm Morocco for financial windfall

Nigeria’s representatives in the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League Edo Queens landed safely in Casablanca, Morocco for the competition, which is scheduled to kick off on November 9 and run through November 23.

The Nigerian and West African champions announced their arrival in a statement buttressed with pictures on their official X handle on Thursday, which read, “Touchdown in Morocco! We have safely landed and received a warm welcome from our hosts. We’re ready, focused, and excited for the journey ahead!”

Meanwhile, the Benin-City club look to brinb back the trophy and become the first Nigerian club to do so in four editions of the competition, but they will also receive a financial windfall.

CAF on Thursday announced that all eight participating teams will receive $150, 000 prize money for participating in the competition, which is equivalent to about N89 m.

The CAF Women’s Champions League is a new competition that was started under the new leadership of Dr Patrice Motsepe in 2021 and this year’s prize money has increased by 52% to USD 2 350 000.

The Prize Money for the CAF Women’s Champions League Morocco 2024 is: Winner: USD 600 000, Runner up: USD 400 000, 3rd Place: USD 350 000, 4th Place: USD 300 000, 3rd of the Group: USD 200 000 each, 4th of the Group: USD 150 000 each.

CAF is committed to developing and growing Women’s Football in Africa and the objective of President Motsepe is to invest in Youth Academies for boys and girls and to continue increasing the prize monies of all CAF Competitions to make them globally competitive and attractive.
