27 schools for Doregos Basketball Championship

By Daily Sports Nigeria on November 6, 2024

The 20th edition of the prestigious Doregos Basketball Championship is set to tip off on November 9, featuring 27 schools from Lagos and Ogun states.

Defending champions, Top Field College, Apapa, will face stiff competition from 26 other schools, including host Doregos Private Academy.

At a press conference held at the Olorunisola Campus of Doregos Private Academy in Ayobo Ipaja, the organiser, Mrs. Clementina Doregos, represented by Adebisi Adegbulugbe, assured that the competition’s standards would not be compromised.

“We will maintain the high standards set by this championship, which has become a benchmark for school basketball in Nigeria,” Adegbulugbe said.

Adegbulugbe urged participating schools to adhere to the rules, emphasising the importance of fair play and discouraging the involvement of external players or advanced students.

“The essence of this championship is to provide a platform for students to compete among themselves and help Nigeria develop emerging talents,” he added.

As part of the organiser’s efforts to ensure a smooth competition, coaches underwent a workshop on the new laws of the game, led by top referees from Lagos State.

The championship will be played in four zones across Lagos and Ogun states.

The competition will run from November 9, 2024, to February 13, 2025.
