Oshoala to face former club Barca August 27

By Daily Sports Nigeria on August 13, 2024

Bay FC striker Asisat Oshoala will play against her former club FC Barcelona for the first time when her National Women’s Soccer League club host the Catalans in an international club friendly on Tuesday, August 27, The PUNCH reports.

The 29-year-old joined Bar FC from Barcelona in February and is expected to face her former teammate at their new home ground, PayPal Park in San Jose.

Bay FC CEO Brady Stewart shared his thoughts on the match that will take place in between the NWSL regular season: “Bay FC is building a global sports franchise grounded in the Bay Area. Both Bay FC and FC Barcelona are committed to growing women’s soccer here and abroad.

He added, “The match will feature an unparalleled amount of talent with World Cup Champions and national team players across numerous countries, so we encourage fans to purchase tickets early as we anticipate tickets will be flying off the site.”

Oshoala, who had a quiet Olympic campaign with the Nigeria Super Falcons, can be aptly termed a Barcelona legend, having scored 85 goals in 101 matches from 2019 to 2024.

The record six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year winner won four Primera División, three UEFA Women’s Champions League, four Supercopa de España Femenina, three Copa de la Reina, and one Copa Catalunya title with the club, emerging as the Primera División Top scorer with 20 goals in the 2021/22 season.

The former Liverpool and Arsenal striker has become a mainstay at Bay FC, scoring their first goal in the 1–0 victory against Angel City on her NWS debut.
