The match in Jos between Giwa FC and visiting Rangers International of Enugu was Sunday evening abandoned at the 74th minute, with Rangers leading 1-0. Reports from the Plateau State capital attributed the development to fan trouble. The reports have it that the police also arrested and detained a fan for a suspected assault on match officials.
Godwin Aguda had scored on the 26th minute of the match, after ghosting behind the Giwa defence, and rounding off goalkeeper Achimugwu Friday. Rangers would have retained the top of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) table if the Week 12 game had ended on that note.
Meanwhile, Ifeanyi Ubah defeated Warri Wolves 1-0 in Nnewi to climb to the top of the NPFL table, with one point ahead of Rangers. Substitute Okereke Maduabuchi scored the goal, assisted by Elu Wilson.
Rivers United overcame Kano Pillars 1-0 in Port Harcourt with Bernard Ovoke scoring the only goal of the game on 77 minutes. This result now keeps Rivers United in fourth place in the log.
Ikorodu United lost again in Lokoja, succumbing 0-2 to Niger Tornadoes, both goals from Ismaila Adeshina Gata. The beleaguered Lagosians have goalkeeper Segun Fatunwashe to thank for keeping the scoreline that way. Ikorodu United have now won just one match, drawn three and lost eight matches, and are now 20th on the table.
