The Senator representing Abia Central, Senator Austin Akobundu, has told his constituents that he will not relent in his current drive towards the training and retraining of young people in his senatorial district.
This sole aim according to him is to ensure that youths of the zone are given the enablement to become employers of labour instead of job seekers.
The Distinguished Senator posited that, with meaningful endeavours and engagements, young men and women in the district would be in vintage position to serve as vanguard of food and agricultural productions, insisting that such laudable trend will lead them to sustainable means of livelihood.
The Senator gave this assurance while flagging off a- five-Day Training Programme on farming and sewing for youths drawn from the six Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Abia Central Senatorial district held in Umuahia on Monday.
He further revealed that the exercise which he is solely sponsoring is in fulfillment of his campaign promises and vowed that his pledge to carry them along in the scheme of things will not be altered, he pledged.
He remarked that this will remain the corner stone of his legislative agenda.
"My people would continue to be the corner stone and so nothing would separate both of us in this our collective journey towards making Abia Central not only enviable in the State, but also pride of place for our teeming unemployed youths to be gainfully engaged in every sense of the word," he stressed.
The energetic and light-hearted Abia Senator who is also the Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs, added that the idea of the programme is to ensure departure from the era of supply of palliatives to the period of real and physical empowerment.
He charged the participants to take full advantage of all the avenues of the training and empowerment that are made available to them to become employers of labour. The Senator reminded them that white collar jobs are scarce these days and urged them to put their utmost interest to listen and learn enduringly for their future benefits.
"We are bent on trying to do something different from it's status quo. therefore be rest assured that we will train you. I'm in the forefront of this. We will empower you, we will follow up. We will continue to find opportunities for the youths of Abia Central district .
We'll follow through, the six Local Governments one after the other in bid to monitor proceedings aimed at seeing that success is achieved.
Speaking earlier, the Special Adviser to the Senator on Agriculture, Elder Henry Nwaoha charged the participants to take the training and empowerment programme very seriously, saying that the workshop serves as vital opportunity for the economic upliftment of the participants.
The participants at the workshop, sponsored by Senator Akobundu, are being trained by Audo-NEPAD Nigeria and African Union Development Agency.
