According to Turkish publication, aspor.com.tr, Super Lig leaders Galatasaray are reportedly interested in Chuba Akpom and have added the striker to their list of transfer targets.
Akpom has been in fine form for Middlesbrough so far this season having scored 26 goals and provided two assists in 33 games to leave Boro on the verge of Premier League promotion.
The reports in the Turkish media indicated that Galatasaray’s scouting team has been closely monitoring the former Arsenal player’s performance, who has been not only one of the key players for Middlesbrough but also the most prolific forward in the Championship.
With the contract of Bafetimbi Gomis set to expire and Mauro Icardi’s future uncertain, the Turkish giants have set their sights on strengthening its offensive line for next season and have added the 27-year-old to their wish list.
“According to the news of the calendar; the yellow-reds stepped in for 27-year-old striker Chuba Akpom, who played in Middlesbrough,” the website wrote.
“After the uncertainty about Mauro Icardi , as well as Bafetimbi Gomis, who is 37 years old, Galatasaray turned to alternative names that came to the table for the striker zone.
“The Yellow-Reds took Nigerian-born English football player Chuba Akpom, who plays in the Championship team Middlesbrough, on their agenda.
“The Scout team continues to closely monitor the situation of the player playing in the striker and number 10 zones.”
Akpom’s contract with M’Boro will expire at the end of the season and he is unlikely to continue with the Championship side as the player wants to continue his career in Europe.
