Ndidi reaches Leicester agreement

By Daily Sports Nigeria on July 12, 2024

After the report that Nigeria international, Wilfred Ndidi, turned down a contract offer from Spanish club Sevilla, expressing his preference to remain in the Premier League, Footmercato says the midfielder is on the verge of signing a new contract with Leicester City, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Ndidi left the King Power Stadium at the end of last season as a free agent following the expiration of his contract and emerged as one of the most sought-after players with several clubs showing interest in the Nigerian.

Barcelona, Sevilla, Juventus, Everton and a host of others have all been linked with the combative midfielder who last season showcased his talent with the Foxes, contributing significantly to their return to the EPL with four goals, five assists, and maintaining an 82% pass accuracy across 32 league appearances.

His defensive capabilities, combined with his progressive play, make him a valuable asset.

Latest report has suggested that the former Genk player is set to return to Leicester.

“Wilfred Ndidi had all the makings of a good deal for OM, OL and AS Monaco. At the end of his contract with Leicester, the 27-year-old Nigerian international midfielder was inclined to discover a new environment and opened the door wide to Ligue 1,” the website wrote.

“Despite discussions with the clubs mentioned above, the man with 57 caps for the Super Eagles is not expected to cross the Channel this summer and for good reason.

“According to our information, Ndidi has reached an agreement with the Foxes for a contract extension. Good news for Leicester who will be able to count this season on a player who has been playing for 7 and a half years in the former club of Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kanté.”

While there has been no official announcement about his contract extension from the club or Ndidi’s camp, the player has been tipped to remain in England with Everton seriously interested in signing the player as replacement for Amadou Onana who has been heavily linked with a potential exit from Goodison Park.
