Super Eagles captain, Troost-Ekong wins league with PAOK

By Daily Sports Nigeria on May 20, 2024

Nigerian international, William Troost-Ekong, has won the 2023-2024 Greek Super League title with PAOK FC.

The triumphant moment came on Sunday night as PAOK secured a hard-fought 2-1 away victory over Aris, sealing their fourth league championship with 80 points from 36 matches, two points clear of rivals AEK Athens.

The match saw Brandon Thomas open the scoring for PAOK on the hour mark before Loren Moron equalised for Aris just two minutes into the second half.

However, Taison’s strike in the 62nd minute proved to be the winner, sparking wild celebrations among the PAOK faithful.

Although Troost-Ekong was not included in the matchday squad by manager Razvan Lucescu, the 30-year-old centre-back played a pivotal role throughout the campaign, making 10 league appearances for the White and Blacks before undergoing surgery following the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in February.

Troost-Ekong, who recently returned to full training, took to X to express his joy, writing, “CHAMPIONS OF GREECE.”

Having joined the club in 2023, Troost-Ekong has established himself as a reliable centre-back for PAOK and the Super Eagles.
