Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, has been tipped to salvage Napoli’s below-par season following his hat-trick heroics in the Partenopei’s 6-1 win over Sassuolo on Wednesday.
Osimhen’s remarkable feat moved him to 13th spot in Napoli’s all-time scorers chart and he also became the third player in the club’s history to score at least 10 goals in four consecutive Serie A seasons after the late Diego Maradona and Attila Sallustro, according to Opta.
According to the Italian Daily, La Gazzetta dello Sport notes that Osimhen is more than the ‘solution to Napoli‘s problems’.
The daily scored the former Lille star eight after his performance and wrote, “He (Osimhen) is the solution to Napoli’s problems.
“He made errors sometimes but continued to create chances. He even played a long ball for Kvara, who scored 5-1.
Another Italian daily, Il Corriere dello Sport also called the Nigeria international ‘unstoppable’ and a ‘hurricane’ that overwhelmed Ruan Tressoldi and Gian Marco Ferrari.
“Napoli hadn’t scored at least six goals in a game since October 2022, when they secured an away 6-1 win at Ajax in the Champions League group phase, Osimhen was the magic.”
Tuttosport and Corriere dello Sport also rated the Nigerian striker eight.
“He is the reason, Napoli is getting back to form,” Tuttosport wrote.
Osimhen’s hat-trick took his tally to five in three games for Napoli since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations and his 13th across all competitions this season.
He has now scored 72 goals in 122 games for Napoli and is now joint-fourth with Paulo Dybala in the Serie A top scorers standings with 11 goals from 15 games.
The result keeps the champions in ninth place but they are now just eight points off the top four.
