Time Up For Gernot Rohr

By Daily Sports on November 22, 2021

Honestly my focus for this week was not to single out one sport amongst the lot and discuss rather to keep the depth searching light on the steady decline of once upon a time Nigeria that was a power house in sports now on continuous free fall of her sports, before the lacksture performance of the Super Eagles against a Cape Verde national side in a World Cup 2022 qualification game inside the main bowl of the Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos.

For the records, I was at the Teslim Balogun Stadium that fateful day to see the boys display after a long time because of how Gernot Rohr is killing the game since his arrival. I purposely avoided the Press Tribune though I did exchange pleasantries’ with my colleagues I saw during my entry into the arena.

In short, I watched the nasty game from the VIP section where I fully concentrated and thoroughly looked at the team and then either clap or otherwise. Note that nothing that would be said here is that new or expected to be listened to by this present deaf and dumb executive committee led by Amaju Pinnick’s Nigeria Football Federation.

However, one must continue to do the needful despite. I am one reporter that does investigative journalism to the core as I am still one of the few that solely believes in the old maxim of hearing from both parties in reporting.

We have come to know that this present executive committee led by Amaju Pinnick has proved or acquired for itself the toga of having ears but never cared a hoot to listen.

If you have followed this young man from his history as an administration way back you will without any prejudice agree that he is a heady fellow though with some good measure of intelligence. I followed him since his golden days and years in Delta State Sports arena and little wonder therefore when he nursed ambition to venture into the governance of the highest football governing body in the country I did support  him wholeheartedly because of his antecedents of great strides in Delta State as sports cum football administrator.

My mind got divided on his role during the search and recruitment of the Super Eagles technical hand. His role on the whole epistle leaves soured taste in the mouth till today. It was that his role in the employment of the head coach of the  national teams that the nation is suffering today in the hands of this half-baked Gernot Rohr a French-German coach of  a supposedly one of the flamboyant national teams in the continent today.

The technical committee saddled with the job of hiring and recommendation of who comes top to handles the team was in place headed by a very Suave then chairman of the NFF technical committee Barrister Chris Green who followed due process of how best to recruit such a sensitive job but pronto Amaju Pinnick and some few others worked across purposes against the well learned, depth and legally constituted committee.

Green rose alarm but it sadly fell on deaf ears hence we are in this pit of hell called Gernot Rohr today. Let me point out here that if you knew Barrister Chris Green you will come to terms with me that as an honourable and nonsense fellow who never believes in half measures he quietly declined a return to the present executive committee of the NFF sensing the lot that would be presently.

As an astute administrator, he saw it coming and walked away.

I digress.  Needless to say it further. Nigerians both core football followers and the rest can vividly attest the sleepy nature of the Super Eagles team since this sluggish  Gernot Rohr was super imposed on the national team.  The Super Eagles since his arrival are yet to reach or near its potentials. That is the way Nigeria is today. Minnows from African countries have turned the Super Eagles team as an ordinary side. The three time African Champs struggled often to keep afloat in games.

It remains speechless till today how the Eagles struggled to contain ordinary Cape Verde national team. It brought two quick pictures into my mind that Nigeria is a country that learns nothing and forgets nothing. A nation that plans how to avert earthquake at the eve of the dangerous natural disaster. That one day under this lame duck coach Gernot Rohr Benin Republic and other lesser countries in football and sundry will wallop Nigeria right there in front of her fans.

I have not hidden my distaste of Rohr because of his incompetence and limitations in the technicalities and his zero result sheet on tactical discipline as it showed on the Eagles. For readers of this column every Monday I have not failed to reel out how Rohr was employed over and above more qualified that forwarded their applications for the job.

Recalled that from the back of the door Amaju Pinnick brought in Rohr and his insistence that he is (Rohr) is the favoured brought him face to face with the technical committee then led by very erudite Barrister Chris Green. He traded words with Amaju Pinnick because of this non-performance Rohr.

It is sad to note that Cape Verde goalkeeper was quoted to have voiced out his disappointment on why his country drew the game against Nigeria in a game according to him his country would have won. That the level it has reached.

It called for open weeping if you watched the game live. I said it on this page few weeks back when Rohr brought back Odoin Ighalo back to the Super Eagles after the players retired. I did say that Rohr not only shot himself on the foot but gave himself out as very incompetent to handle a high profile team in Africa like the Super Eagles.

Now after that child’s display against Cape Verde of all teams a panel or whatever committee was set up.

Sunday Dare another low performer as Sports Minister said the report will be ready this week. What was set up is another ploy to douse the tension that hell of outing by the Eagles generated.

Nothing, absolutely nothing will come out of it like the previous. This Nigeria where such things have been used as cover up. Amaju Pinnick and his partners in crime should prove me wrong and give Rohr the boot. He is leading Nigerian football at this highest level downwards.

Amaju Pinnick and his co-travelers knew the game they playing with Rohr against Nigeria a country without a defined system.

Head or tail the worse is yet to come. As Rohr was employed was hoe Joseph Yobo who has no coaching certificate was super imposed on the team as an assistant coach leaving more qualified ex-internationals that went through the rigor of coaching institution.

I digress. Let us anchor here this week. Nothing would happen no matter the so called report Sunday Dare is talking about. It is the usual kite flying that has become the lot of Nigeria.

Keep shooting hard till next week as the struggle continues!!
