Super Eagles must stay focus, insists Omeruod

By Daily Sports on November 18, 2016

Kenneth Omeruo has tasked his Super Eagles ’ colleagues to keep their celebration over Algeria low as they still have lots of matches to be played in the 2018 World Cup qualifier before they can be assured of a ticket to Russia 2018.

A brace from Victor Moses plus John Obi Mikel's strike handed the Eagles a priceless 3-1 home win over the Greens to open up a four point lead at the top of Group B which also include Zambia and Cameroon.

He revealed that though they are fortunate to be in their present position, they still have to respect their other group rivals if they are to pick the sole ticket from the group.

“I can’t say that we have qualified because no team qualifies for a competition after only two games," Omeruo told Goal.

We are in good position to qualify if we don’t allow it to get into our heads. We must remain focused and show respect to our group opponents if we are to pick the only ticket,” Omeruo told Goal.

“We should reflect on the games we have played and think of what we should do to ensure that we qualify. We must not let the points between us and others in group slip if we are serious about the World Cup ticket.”

Eagles will have their next World Cup qualifying tie on August 28, 2017 at home to Cameroon before travelling to face the same Indomitable Lions five days later in a corresponding fixture before playing the Chipolopolo of Zambia at home on October 2 and the deciding tie in Algiers against the Fennecs of Algeria on November 6.
