Chief Sir Ike Okeke, Chairman, Enugu State Chapter of Nigerian Football Supporters Club (NFSC), has described the recent purported impeachment of NFSC Chairman, Vincent Okumagba, as a nullity because according to him as far as the Chapters Forum is concerned nothing happened.
According to Sir Okeke, the NFSC Constitution is very explicit on how a national officer like the chairman can be impeached and the Rafiu Ladipo alleged sponsored impeachment did not in any way follow the procedure as laid down in the club’s constitution.
He said the various chapters were shocked when they heard that the national chairman has been impeached the same day they were holding Chapters Forum (meeting) in Ilorin and wondered the people that carried out the impeachment of Okumagba.
The Enugu Chapter Chairman explained that it is the various state Chairmen and their secretaries and other national officers that formed the National Executive Council (NEC) that can constitutionally impeach any national officer and not hoodlums from Ojuelegba that carried out the purported impeachment. Sir Okeke stated this on Saturday after their meeting in Lagos.
In his words: “In the meeting we had yesterday (Friday), we deliberated on what happened on the 16th of this month, whereby Rafiu Ladipo went to Ojuelegba and gathered some boys and went to Ayinde Giwa and said they have impeached our National Chairman, Vincent Okumagba.
“On that very day, the Chapters Forum comprising 18 inaugurated State Chapters of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club were in Ilorin holding meeting (that is Chairmen and Secretaries), only for us to hear that some group of boys were dragged from Ojuelegba to Ayinde Giwa to have a meeting and they said they impeached the chairman.
“If you look at our constitution, there is no way the NEC can meet without setting up a disciplinary committee to look into the crime whatever it may be. That is the position of our constitution. Even yesterday (Friday) when we met, we looked at our constitution and said those boys that organised that purported impeachment that a committee must look into their activities. A committee will be set up and they will invite them to defend themselves. May be there are some things that they knew that we don’t know. So, it is after the meeting, a disciplinary committee by NEC will be convened by the National Chairman, would come again and look at the committee’s report and then take action. That is what the constitution says.
“So, what happened on the 16th was a nullity. Vincent Okumagba still remains the chairman of Nigerian Football Supporters Club. The entire State Chapters are solidly behind him and we are intact.
“You may recall that there is another club which Ladipo formed which he called Nigerian Football and Other Sports Supporters Club. That club is illegally registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). Right now at the Federal High Court, the Chapters Forum is challenging the existence of that club. We have asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to de-register that club.
“It is because of the existence of that club that Ladipo parades himself as the President General of Nigerian Football Supporters Club.
“All of us joined Nigerian Football Supporters Club. We never joined Nigeria Football and Other Sports Supporters Club. So, we must get that right. Therefore, Vincent Okumagba remains the chairman of Nigerian Football Supporters Club.
“It is not a matter of going to court because we see the purported impeachment of Okumagba like nothing happens. It was just a matter of Ojuelegba boys going somewhere and doing something. So it is not worth going to court for.
“Here you have chairmen and secretaries of various State Chapters. You have just spoken with Mr. Obadiah Haruna, the secretary of the Kaduna Chapter. Here you have people from South-South, South-East, South-West, North-Central, North-East and North-West. In other words, you have people from Bayelsa, Delta, Anambra, Enugu, Oyo, Ondo, Kwara, Bauchi, Kaduna, Katsina etc. The people that met at Ayinde Giwa are hoodlums hired by Ladipo from Ojuelegba,” Sir Okeke insisted.
