Premier League side Nottingham Forest have expressed an interest in signing Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
According to Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, the Tricky Trees are pushing hard to get the signing of another striker over the line this summer.
Forest had initially wanted to sign Akpom on loan during the winter transfer window but a move failed to materialise.
The initial offer from Forest was that they would pay £14m to Ajax should the Reds remain in the Premier League after Akpom came on and helped them avoid relegation.
Akpom only signed for the Dutch giants in the summer, with the club paying £12m to Middlesbrough for his services.
Fellow Nigerian Taiwo Awoniyi returned from injury against Arsenal and scored a goal in the 2-1 loss at City Ground, whilst Englishman Chris Wood is also at the club.
Furthermore, Forest have also signed Portuguese forward, Rodrigo Ribeiro, in the winter window and the youngster should be capable of providing competition.
Akpom has scored nine goals for Ajax in 20 appearances and would still have his eyes on plying his trade in the English topglight.
Clearly, Nuno Espirito Santo wants to be well-stocked in the attack as he looks to bring on more firepower to Nottingham Forest.
Akpom endured a tough start to life in The Netherlands since making a switch to the Dutch giants in the summer but he seems to have put all the struggles behind him by returning to the scoresheet.
