Iwobi, Bassey form good for Eagles – Oliseh

By DailySports Nigeria on January 1, 2024

Former Super Eagles player and coach, Sunday Oliseh has suggested the current form of Fulham duo, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey is a sign of good things to come for Nigeria at the 2023 AFCON which kicks off in 12 days’ time in Ivory Coast, PUNCH Sports Extra reports

Iwobi and Bassey who were both named in Jose Peseiro’s 25-man squad for the tournament starred for Fulham in their hard-fought 2-1 victory over Arsenal at Craven Cottage on Sunday, dashing the Gunners hopes of topping the table into the new year.

Despite having a bad start to the game, with Arsenal scoring the opener through Bukayo Saka in the fifth minute, Raul Jiminez scored the equalizer for Fulham in the 29th minute before Bobby Decordova-Reid scrambled home the winner for Fulham in the 60th minute.

Oliseh was quite impressed with the performance of both players, and he took to X to praise them.

“Extremely impressed by the maturity and discipline put up versus Arsenal, by Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi as they played decisive roles in Fulham’s victory over a seemingly, mentally tired Arsenal. Encouraging for the AFCON,” Oliseh posted after the game.

Having played their last game for Fulham before departing for the AFCON, Iwobi and Bassey will resume camp with the rest of the squad in the United Arab Emirates on January 2.
