Boniface joint second assists provider in Europe

By Daily Sports Nigeria on December 20, 2023

Across the top five major leagues in Europe, Nigeria international, Victor Boniface, is the joint-second player with the most assists in the league, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Boniface joined Bayer Leverkusen for €20m from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise last transfer window but has blossomed to become an integral part of the team.

The 22-year-old striker has been instrumental to Die Werkself’s impressive performance in the 2023/24 season as they currently sit top of the Bundesliga table after 15 match days.

With his 16 goal contributions (nine goals and seven assists) in 22 league appearances, the Super Eagles forward is one of the most key players in Europe.

His seven assists is only bettered by Bayern Munich Leroy Sane, who has eight assists in the Bundelisga.

The former Manchester City man is the player with the most assists in Europe for the 2023/24 season.

Boniface, Xavi Simons, Mohamed Salah, Kieran Trippier, Julian Brandt, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Jan-Niklas Beste and Pedro Neto are in a large group of players tied for second place.

Bukayo Saka, Ollie Watkins and Marcus Thuram all have six assists each to sit just two assists off Sane.

Harry Kane is among a large group of players tied with five assists each with the likes of Chris Fuhrich, Diego Rico and Toni Kroos.

They have been joined in the past month by Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku, and West Ham’s James Ward-Prowse.

Takumi Minamino, Thomas Muller and Caio Henrique are some of the other players whose tallies for goals created just four short of the leader.

Lionel Messi has been the best creative player in Europe’s top five leagues for more than a decade but his exit from Paris Saint-Germain to Inter Miami in MLS means a new assist king will emerge at the end of the season.
