Italian giants AC Milan, have heaped plaudits on Nigerian winger, Samuel Chukwueze and the duo Fikayo Tomori and Noah Okafor who are players of Nigerian descent in the wake of their 2-1 comeback win over Newcastle at Saint James Park on Wednesday.
The Rossoneri hailed the impact of the trio after their performance secured a Europa League spot.
Newcastle were dreaming of a place in the knockout stages when they took the lead through Joelinton’s 33rd-minute thunderbolt but former Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic levelled for Milan.
As both sides pushed for a winner in an open game, Newcastle’s fate was sealed six minutes from time when Milan struck ruthlessly on the counter-attack.
Substitutes, Okafor and Chukwueze came on and both combined brilliantly with the latter curling a superb finish past Martin Dubravka six minutes from time leaving the Magpies without even the consolation of a place in the Europa League.
The goal was Chukwueze’s second of the season.
Tomori on his part, made several tackles and won eight duels coupled with a last-ditch tackle to deny Miguel Almiron a chance to break the deadlock at the 20th-minute mark.
After the game, Milan took to their social media page to praise the trio, tagging it “Naija Excellence.”.
Milan will bid to bank on their player of Nigerian decent when they take on Monza at the San Siro on Sunday.
