Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi is basking in the euphoria of opening his Premier League goal account for the club after scoring their first goal in the thrilling 3-2 win over Wolves on Monday night, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Nigerian swept home in the seventh minute to make his mark for the club in the league as well as mark his 300th club appearance with his name on the scorer’s sheet.
It’s his first goal in the EPL this season and his fourth goal in nine appearances against Wolves, more than he has scored against any other side. Coincidentally, he scored his first goal of last season against Wolves while playing for Everton.
There were three penalties in the game after Iwobi’s opener and Matheus Cunha equaliser for Wolves. Willian restored Fulham’s lead from the spot and also netted the winner from 12 yards after Hee Chang Hwang made it 2-2 for Wolves from the spot as well.
“That felt nice,” Iwobi posted on X after the game with different slides of himself celebrating with teammates, including fellow Nigeria international Calvin Bassey.
Fulham manager Marcos Silva also acknowledged the creativity of Iwobi, Willian and Andreas Pereira who all played behind the striker as the Cottagers returned to winning ways after back-to-back defeats.
“When you play with Willian, Alex, Andreas Pereira and Tom Cairney behind the striker, it was clear what we wanted for the game. I knew that we were going to have ball, and I wanted much better decisions, because I knew that it’s going to be important for us to have some control. We got something from the game and it’s time to build on that,” the coach said.
Iwobi has now scored two goals in 13 appearances in all competitions since joining Fulham on summer transfer deadline day for £20m. His first goal was in the EFL Cup against.
The Nigerian now has 19 Premier League goals in spells that have crossed Arsenal, Everton and now at Craven Cottage.
