Showtime Flag Football League leaders, Lagos Athletics Flag have what it takes to go all the way to win the maiden title according to the SFFL commissioner, Adebare Adejumo, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Lagos Athletics Flag who drew bye in their first round playoff clash along with Titans will face the winner of the game involving Spartans and Dragons in the semi-finals.
Other teams competing for N8m prize money and the SFFL trophy in the playoffs are Lagos Titans, Lagos Rebels and Panthers Sports.
So far, Lagos Athletics Flag has lived up to its owners (Jimmy Akinsola) hype at the start of the campaign when he promised that his team will deliver incredible touchdowns, unforgettable plays and the magical spirit of Flag Football.
They lead the Season X standings after recording eight wins and a loss from their nine league games – their latest win a 36-25 win over Lagos Rebels and Adejumo believes their impressive form will boost their confidence heading into the playoffs.
Speaking ahead of the playoffs on Sunday, Adejumo said, “From the beginning of the season, I said that the 10 teams competing in the maiden league were well prepared and they have surprised every fan who attended the games weekly.
“Because I expected them all to bring their A game and from the first week till date, all I can say is that we are going into the playoffs and it is going to be tougher.
“Lagos Athletics Flag have the best record in the league and for me, I think it is down to the athleticism of their players coupled with the strategy and management of the team in the top spot.
“I said to myself that they will be a top contender. Lagos Athletics Flag have given me joy with the way they have played and I think they might nick it (title).”
Adebare also added that the aim of the league is to create more awareness for the sport and ensure American football grow in Nigeria.
“It’s a coed recreational and amateur league that brings everyone from all spheres of life together,” Adebare said.
“We want to make the sports develop in the country and encourage youngsters to get involved in Flag Football.”
