22 teams will take part in the first Ife Igbo peace football competition in Awka, the Anambra capital scheduled to kickoff on Saturday.
Mr Osita Onuko, sponsor of the competition said the football fiesta was meant to foster unity and engender peace among Awka villages.
Onuko who is theManaging Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) said the competition would kick off on Nov. 19 would give the players the platform to exhibit their talents and keep youths busy till the end of the year.
He said the Ife Igbo Awka Peace football competition is part of the campaign against the menace of cultism which had become a worrisome social vice in the town.
Onuko winners of the competition would go home with N1 million, N500,000 and N300,000 for their efforts.
The teams that would participate in the competition include, ACTDA, Umudioka, Umueri, Umuanaga, Umuogwali, Umuenechi, Umuokpu, Umubelle, Nkwelle, Umuogbu, Umuayom and Umuogbunu.
Others are, Umuzocha, Ifite-awka, Amachalla, Umuoramma, Umukwa, Amudo, Amikwo, Omuko, Umuike and Umunnamoke.
The opening game will take place at the Awka Township Stadium while the group games will take place at Ayom na Okpala and All Saints Anglican Church football fields, Awka.
