Hearn prefers Vegas for Joshua, Wilder clash

By Daily Sports Nigeria on November 11, 2023

Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has hinted at venues in London, United Kingdom and Nevada, USA for the clash between the British-Nigerian and Deontay Wilder.

The heavyweight rivals have been on a collision course for the best part of a decade and there appears to be a good chance that we’ll find out who is the better boxer in 2024.

Hearn revealed that at this stage they are considering all options regarding the location of such a fight, hoping to get the maximum benefit.

“We must explore all options and check whether they are reliable. If not, then there’s no problem holding it in Vegas or Wembley. But Vegas will bring in more money,” Hearn said.

Plans to stage the fight between Joshua and Wilder next year are still ongoing as chief executive of the boxing arm of Matchroom Sport, Frank Smith, has ruled out the fight taking place in December.

Wilder has been inactive since destroying Robert Helenius in one round last year whilst Joshua has had two outings in 2023.

The British fighter is eager to have one more contest this year before heading into a potential Wilder fight, but Smith has revealed that the priority is to get Joshua another fight before the year runs out.

“We are working on that now. The key for us right now is activity for Anthony,” Smith told ProBoxTV.

“We are still looking at options for December-January time to keep him busy. Obviously, he fought in April and August, something he hasn’t done in a long
time.”
