Kanu’s reprimand follows the team’s embarrassing defeat to Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the inaugural African Football League (AFL).
The reigning Nigerian champions stumbled to a comprehensive 4-0 aggregate loss across games held in Uyo and Casablanca.
The two-time Champions League winners expected to present a more formidable challenge against Wydad but lost 0-1 to the Moroccans last weekend.
Despite vowing to extract their pound of flesh from their foes on Wednesday, the People’s Elephants crumbled to a 3-0 defeat.
Enyimba’s double jeopardy against Wyday aside, the Aba giants have not lived up to expectations so far this term.
Earlier, Enyimba’s hopes were dashed during the preliminary stages of the CAF Champions League, as Libya’s Al Ahly Benghazi eliminated them.
In the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), the People’s Elephants suffered a 2-0 loss to Gombe United and only narrowly clinched a 3-2 victory against Akwa United at home.
In response to the mediocre results, the Enyimba management has charged the club’s coaches and players to double their efforts to turn around their fortunes.
The board, led by Kanu, who was Super Eagles teammate with Finidi when Nigeria won the bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2000, has restated its commitment to exhausting all possible means, both financially and morally, to support the team.
It, however, emphasised that the club will not hesitate to implement necessary measures if swift improvement fails to materialise.
Enyimba’s upcoming challenge will be a midweek fixture against Niger Tornadoes in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) this Wednesday.
