Table tennis: Saudi move excites Quadri

Nigeria’s top-ranked table tennis player, Aruna Quadri is delighted to have completed a move to Khaleej Table Tennis club in Saudi Arabia from Fakel-Gazprom Orenburg in Russia, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The 35-year-old signed a two-year deal with the Saudi club joining a host of Nigerian sports stars to have moved to the oil rich country Saudi clubs this year after Godwin Saviour, Ashley Plumptre and Henry Onyekuru.

Quadri successfully retained his title in the men’s singles of the 2023 ITTF African Championships after beating Ahmed Saleh of Egypt in four straight sets in the final match last month in Algeria to secure his eighth continental title.

He remains confident of making a great impact at the club.

“Happy to join the club and I hope I can make a great impact here,” Quadri said.

The 35-year-old currently ranked 16th place in the world ranking is expected to continue his rivalry with long-time rival, Egyptian star Omar Assar, who signed for Al-Ittihad recently.
