After taking a close and critical look at the second leg AFCON 2019 qualifier game between the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in Sfax, Tunisia October 16, National Chairman of Nigeria Super Eagles Football Supporter Club (NSESC), Prince Vincent Okumagba, has described the performance of the Nigerian side as gallantry spiced with resilient spirit.

He told Daily Sports in a telephone interview upon return from the encounter that the match was not as easy as many people may have thought adding that the team spirit and resolve by the technical crew and the players never to let go prompted the victory which has counted in the country’s quest to ensure her flag would be flown in next year’s AFCON football summit.

“It was a good game by the Eagles. The entire match showed that it was a product of hard work, concentration, determination and sundry. The boys did not fail to any distraction focus was their watchword and it paid off handsomely at the end of the day. I praise the technical crew that ensured it put up yet another winning formula few days after the heavily defeat of the Knights thereby firmly lording it on Libya that we are their superior in all facets,” he revealed.

Okumagba also posited that the round the clock preparation and synergy between the Amaju Pinnick-led NFF executive committee board, the technical crew and the players gave the Eagles the needed impetus to perform excellently. It was a product of all hands being on deck that saw Nigeria through and stead her as one of the possible qualifiers from the group.

The NSESC boss restated that in as much as the technical crew is working extra time to present a formidable Super Eagles team, there are still lots of work to be done in most of the departments especially the defence so that their concentration level will always be at alert all the times. The defence pair of Ekong and Balogun must brace up to ensure that loose ends occasioned by the heat of attack by their opponents are quickly and imaginatively tidied up without allowing any damage to be caused as witnessed the game against Libya in Tunisia.

“The boys have come of age and by now ought to know where each is weak and close it without allowing such opening to yawn. The match against Libya must be studied on and on so that in a relax atmosphere the players can watch and see where each err. The South African game will be more desperate and tension soaked which meant there may not much chance created and half chance will matter in that game. South Africa will be hell bent on her spirited bid to have it double over Nigeria and also top the group while Nigeria is expected to put up water tight resistance to stole the show right there in front of the Bafana Bafana fans in South Africa. Therefore all lope holds noticed in Uyo and Sfax must be plugged effectively,” Okumagba further advised.  

He insists that he supporters club would always be there to give the team five star support that would be non-stop until the last blast of the referee’s whistle in South Africa come November 16. The Delta State-born oil dealer thumbed up the Amaju Pinnick-led NFF for his unrelenting efforts to ensure qualification for the team by providing all comforts for the team and the technical crew. “It has paid off and the journey is not yet over until after the crucial tie against the Bafana Bafan and the game in Uyo,” Okumagba stated.
