Amusan drops eight places in WA rankings

World 100m hurdles record holder, Tobi Amusan, has dropped eight places from 25th to 33rd in the women’s overall weekly rankings released by World Athletics ahead of this weekend’s Diamond League final in Eugene, Oregon, USA.

The Nigerian ranked the fifth best in the world at the start of the year and number one in her event following her triumph at the World Athletics Championships last year has also slipped from second to third in the hurdles.

The 26-year-old who lost her world title last month in Budapest, Hungary and will be seeking a historic title defence this weekend in the Wanda Diamond League.

Amusan will thus not be seeking to win in Oregon and make history as the second woman in Diamond League history after Dawn Nelson-Harper to win a hat-trick of 100m hurdles titles, she will also hope to, at least, regain her number status in her event.

The Nigerian, with a 1414 total points score will however have to run close to her 12.12secs world record run if she is desirous of overhauling Olympic champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (with 1437 points) who sits on top of the standings while former world record holder, Kendra Harrison is second with a point haul of 1420.
