2000 athletes for Edo Heritage Sports Festival

No fewer than 2000 athletes will take part in the sixth Edo Heritage Sports Festival and Carnival in Benin City in November.

Chief Executive Officer of Heritage and Sports Colony International Limited, Mrs Omoyemwen Adeyinka-Afolabi, said the event was aimed at promoting cultural tolerance and unity in the state.

She said, “The fiesta is a blend of contemporary and traditional components with the aim to promote cultural tolerance and unity in Edo State.

“Events that will be competed for are ayo, traditional wrestling, chess, karate, five-a-side football and athletics. There will also be daily outdoor dance, music fiesta, spelling bee competition, Miss Paraclete International Pageant, free skills acquisition, cultural carnival parade and a trade fair.

“This edition is in collaboration with the Edo State Sports Commission and the Edo Skills Development Agency; and it is supported by corporate bodies and government agencies.”
