World Cup: I Felt I Let S’Falcons Down By Missing The First Penalty – Oparanozie

Desire Oparanozie, the Super Falcons forward, has reflected on the elimination of Nigeria at the Round of 16 of the ongoing Women World Cup in New Zealand and Australia and said she felt she let her team mates down after she missed the first penalty kick that set the negative tone for Nigeria’s eventual loss.

Speaking in a monitored program, the pacy forward said she stepped out to take the first kick as a leader in the team, however, regretted that she missed the kick but said it was one of those things in the game of football, saying the team had learnt from their loss going forward.

“Getting to the World Cup I was injured and I wasn’t able to play in the field but off the field I did my part and I was able to motivate the team and everything I brought to the table. 

“Taking the first penalty, I was trying to lead the team as a leader by taking it and taking responsibility but unfortunately it turned out that way. 

“It is one of those things in football just that I felt I let the team down and all that. But I just guess it just wasn’t our day. We have taking our loss in good stead and hope to do better in future,” she said.
