Iheanacho opens up on life under Guardiola

By Daily Sports on July 19, 2016

Manchester City starlet Kelechi Iheanacho has been speaking about life under the club’s new manager, Pep Guardiola.

Iheanacho enjoyed a breakthrough campaign under Guardiola’s predecessor, Manuel Pellegrini, last season and is looking to go one better this season.

The 19-year-old has now kicked off life at City under the much respected Guardiola and took the time to explain how it has been since the Spaniard took the reins.

"Guardiola is a good manager, everyone knows that.

"He's bringing fresh thoughts and his own style. Everything is different and everyone is adapting to what he's teaching us.

“We need to understand what he's telling us and what he wants to bring to the team,” Iheanacho told Sky Sports.

Iheanacho has been going through the rigours of pre-season with his City teammates under the guidance of Guardiola.

He notes that “there is nothing to enjoy about pre-season” while also discussing his goalscoring style.

He also discussed his versatility which he insists could benefit both club and country.

"There's nothing to enjoy about pre-season, you just have to work hard.

"Everyone finishes (scores) the way that they finish, it just feels natural for me.

"In my country, that's where I started playing. I was a number 10," he said.

"For my club, I play more as a striker but I can play in both positions. I can play as a striker or I can play as a number 10. I can even play on the wing as well. I can play in any position."

Iheanacho rounded off by voicing his sentiments on his partnership with Argentine striker Sergio Aguero.

"I don't know yet (if I will partner Aguero or act as his understudy in the new season).

"When we start the season, we'll find out what the coach is going to bring to the team.

"The atmosphere (in the team) is great. We want to achieve a lot this season and I think we're in good shape to do it.

“We can reach our goals. I was happy with what I achieved last season and where I am today.

“But I have to keep working to improve every day and in every training session. I think I'm improving a lot. I just need to keep working to improve more and more. I want to make the fans proud," he said.

Iheanacho scored 14 goals in all competitions this season.
