Joshua tipped to beat Whyte

By Daily Sports Nigeria on August 1, 2023

Former unified world champion, Roy Jones Jr, has offered his prediction for the upcoming rematch between two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte, saying the former would triumph when both fighters clash.

The two longtime rivals are set to face off at the 02 Arena on August 12th, eight years after their memorable clash for the British title.

Jones had been in discussions to train Joshua following his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk last year, but Joshua chose to work with Derrick James in Dallas instead.

Nevertheless, Jones remains optimistic about Joshua’s chances in the rematch, provided the boxer-trainer duo has “become more comfortable” with each other.

“I think it should be a good fight, I think Joshua will probably beat him again. Hopefully, he and Derrick have become more comfortable with one another now, and he has a better understanding of what Derrick wants from him,” Jones said in an interview with Boxing News.

Having already defeated Whyte once, Jones believes that Joshua has the knowledge to secure a victory.

“He knows how to beat Whyte – he beat him one time already. But he actually should beat him better this time than he did the first time, if he has proper training.,” Jones said.
