Head coach, Edo State hockey team, Sunny Ohiwerei, says the future of the state’s hockey players is bright.
Ohiwerei stated this after the Edo men’s team were beaten 5-0 by champions Kaduna, while the women’s side lost 1-0 to Delta, champions of the women’s category, at the ongoing National Hockey League in Abuja on Sunday.
“I can’t blame the defeat on the players because the fault isn’t from them, they played well against very good sides,” he said.
“We’ve not played in the league for about nine years now, so it’s like we are starting all over.
“But I’m very happy with the improvement of the players because we also have U-16 and U-21 teams, and we are capable of winning trophies from these teams. I believe they will develop to become very good senior players with proper grooming and encouragement.”
