Women World Cup is ongoing in Australia and Nigeria is competiting in one of the deadliest groups if you ask me.  Note that I am one of the commentators that did not mince words on the preparation of the girls to the tournament but only gave a pass comment whether the team’s foreign coach Waldrum start his dream with his employers, Nigeria Football Federation.  

Now that the championship is in full swing teams have started in earnest to display their readiness to the game and results so far have reflected glaringly surprises, the name of the game not equally left out.

Football has been one sport that has brought much more relief for the country’s poverty ridden populace.

The game especially at that level has helped in no smaller measure.  The game is being mismanaged in Nigeria as usual like the larger polity.  Super Falcons are striving to ensure they do well first for the betterment of their careers and for this thankless society where the common man has been completely wiped out.  The brunt is so tasking on Nigerians.

The country is leading to no direction.  The girls are determined to go all out to announce their eminent arrival as force to be reckoned with in Women World Cup history where she has been competing.   It is not to say that one of African continent representatives has special features or capacity to conquer the World this time because superior technicalities, tactics and the quality to do that in all ramifications to that effect.

The Nigerian team will thrive to certain extent as the Women World Cup show piece. Note that such posting that has been with Nigeria cannot be laid solely on the door steps of the players who have sacrificed lots of their value to improve and sustain the level of the game at that level.  The bulk of progress for this game is on the door step of the administrators of the sport in the country which NFF superintends and has been identified as culprits in chief for the continuous decline of the game.

Football is not growing at all in the country rather, the little the sport achieved has been totally eroded over these years of locust in Sunday Dankaro House, for employment of lowest caliber of coaches for more than eight years plus now.  To be honest with you, football down turn in the country is better imagined than described.  Therefore any football buff expecting miracle of any kind superlative outing from Super Falcons in the current World Women football submit. NFF administrators have only succeeded in entrenching Nigeria a potentially and supposedly emerging football power in the continent  and one of the respected in the World level has been made football orphan by her overseers today.

It will be instructive to note that using her result against Canada at the opening game of the group the other day to expect real time posting may be foolhardy enough as the masters of the game would start emerging as the championship proceeds.  Super Falcons will strive where luck and team spirit would lead the team to, I pray it leads lead them to conquer the world in this tournament. The technical bench as we all know is weak and bereft.

The game would continue to be child’s play in Nigeria so long as these same people hold it hostage like being experienced in political scene in Nigeria where nothing works.  Nigerian football has lived on flashes of victories coming from the determination of the players. The administrators have been milking dry the game’s proceeds and putting nothing concrete in return to build the sport which has great potential for striving in the country. 

That is, the status has remained unabated.  Sadly, such beat goes on.   This game has experienced more delay in development than ever.  No doubt football has been on the receiving end and every NFF President is ready to tell anyone that cares to listen that it has what it takes to reinvent the game to greater height only for it to be seen going the way of their predecessor.

Just take a look, whether critical or otherwise at the drama which has been playing out in Super Eagles since the contract of obvious low performing Jose Peresie expired.  That is the way and manner the administrators of the sport are in Nigeria.  They deliberately crave absurdity because of the kind of system that obtains here, and because nobody checkmates anybody things continue to go haywire. Corruption and other killer policies become the order of the day without anyone raising an eyebrow.

Super Eagles are being beaten or decisively confronted by any kind of opponent in the continent because the once upon a time dreaded side has been reduced to nothingness from Amaju Pinnick’s era to this moment.

One would only wish the Super Falcons well hoping that the girls would keep on the faith.  For the safe gloves of the team, Nnadozie whose outstanding performance against Canada not only deservedly earned her best player of that game?  Her anticipation was beauty to behold. Nigerians  hope such performance of hers repeat in subsequent matches.

This columnist can make bold to say that what Super Falcons team is facing in far away Australia could safely be likened to a great burden.  Much are being expected from the team while near nothing was invested in their preparations for a tournament of such magnitude in their hands unlike their counterparts competing in the same football summit.   It will not be out of place to further point out here that the girls are under pressure to excel exceedingly not minding the difficulties and handicaps obviously confronting the team even right now.

The team has experienced well exposed players that can hold their own given their current forms.  Nigerians are keenly waiting and wishing the girls well. The game must not be allowed to die. This beautiful sport has done a lot for the fans here and we are here to keep these so called administrators on their toes despite that they have proved deaf, dumb and less concerned.   However, keep shooting hard till next week. Meanwhile, we wait!!
