Naija Super 8: Sporting, Akwa, Remo, Lobi eye final spots

By Daily Sports Nigeria on July 14, 2023

Wildcard entrants, Sporting Lagos and Akwa United, will clash in the first semi-final of the ongoing Naija Super 8 tournament, while Lobi Stars and Remo Stars will also faceoff for the second final ticket at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Friday (today).

Sporting beat Katsina United 1-0 in the deciding game of Group A on Thursday to finish top of the group with seven points and also set up the clash with Akwa, who finished second in Group B with six points.

Sporting’s victory over Katsina confirmed Remo’s progression to the semi-finals as the Ikenne side advanced ahead of the Chanji Boys due to the number of goals they scored in the group stage.

After three games each, both Remo and Katsina finished their group campaigns with four points each, as well as the same goal difference of 0. But Remo had the advantage with four goals scored and conceded, while Katsina scored three goals and conceded three.

The four teams who were eliminated in the group stage walked away with N9m each, leaving the four semi-finalists to battle it out for the grand prize of N25m.

The final of the tournament holds at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Sunday.

Naija Super 8 is organised by Flykite Productions in partnership with MultiChoice Nigeria and sponsors, MTN, Hero Lager, DStv, GOtv, SuperSport, Moniepoint, Pepsi and Custodian Assurance.
