I am being pulled by the other readers to come back to the political terrain which I just relinquished. Putting this column to bed, trouble is boiling over in our Universities; as NANS are threatening showdown over recent school fees increment in the Universities. Truth is that Nigeria can safely be likened to that famous novel titled “One week, One trouble” but in the case of Nigeria it is one week, many troubles. The nation is seriously rumbling, boiling over and the whole troubles are played down as if there is normalcy in the land. There is no need going back to the ones already on ground.
In short, Nigeria is sitting on the gun powder accept or leave it. The above is the executive summary of the rot called Nigeria. Nigeria has been roundly destroyed. Today the only safe domain where Nigerians always seek solace which is football is already near destruction by the so called administrators. The years of Amaju Pinnick could be simply described as years of the locust and we don’t want a repeat of such administrators.
We were witnesses the hue and cry that trailed who becomes the President of the Nigeria Football Federation. The usual way of the more you look, the less you see bug in Nigeria’s dirty, stressful murky political water reared its ugly head in football election. However, those same establishment people ensured that more qualified candidates who showed great interest in top job were blocked out. One remembers vividly formation of a Northern group that drummed support for Ibrahim Gusau even to the extent of threats that it is their turn therefore their own must occupy the plum position. This group blackmailed candidates who were very qualified and has the grasp of what modern football administration is all about. That was how it went plus the unholy alliance Amaju had with Ibrahim Gusau as his successor.
Today, Nigerian football is yet to look upwardly. Gusau is still playing the old card. Last week this columnist put a lie to his playing fast game when he was widely quoted to have said that he would sort the opinion of fans whether to renew Jose Peresie contract or not. We refused to cap for him because we knew he was playing to the gallery. Now the initial contract of the Portugese has expired and one is still at loss as to why he is still in charge of the Super Eagles where he has performed woefully.
The current is efforts by Ibrahim Gusau to return technically deficient Portuguese national, Jose Peresie. To be honest with you, he has done absolutely nothing to add any value to the national team since he was smuggled in like his predecessor, Gernot Rohr by the last Amaju Pinnick led board which Ibrahim Gusau was part and parcel in every decision taken by the last failed regime.
Super Eagles team is gradually dying and this ‘undertaking’ NFF board presided over by Gusau is just pretending as if all is normal with our football in all spheres. These NFF undertakers were there when the team lost out in international football meets last time. The storm is gathering again. Many local coaches are more technically and tactically superior to Jose Peresie.
As Nigerian football is warming up earnestly for likely free fall and total collapse, note that many objective football analysts, football buffs, and real true stakeholders have passed vote of no confidence on Jose Peresie and the move by Ibrahim Gusau led executive committee spirited efforts to renew his contract either by hook or crook.
The half bake Jose Peresie has been associated with failure from the few even lesser clubs he had managed in the past. That makes this columnist and other keen watchers of the game at that level to pointedly observe why in the first instance this fellow was recommended for the high tension wire coaching job for equally high profile team like the Super Eagles.
He has messed up our team. Any team can straight forwardly enter this once upon a time dreaded Super Eagles squad in the continent and even most foreign countries teams while confronting the Eagles. These are history now. Nigeria has become a lawless country where people in authorities do not border about what they are doing. The Ibrahim Gusau and his nefarious fellow bed mates are poised to renew the contract of this Jose Peresie, coach who failed woefully. Watch out, he will be confirmed except if intervention comes from Aso Rock Villa.
We sympathise with the fast fading Nigeria’s flagship team. Keep shooting hard till next week. Meanwhile we wait!!
