Cricket: Nigeria, Rwanda jostle for Kwibuka final spot

By Daily Sports Nigeria on June 16, 2023

Nigeria and Rwanda are in a neck-and-neck race for a final spot at the ongoing Kwibuka Women’s T20 tournament in Kigali as the round-robin stage of the competition comes to an end on Friday (today), The PUNCH reports.

After four wins each, both countries currently have eight points on the leaderboard, six points behind leaders Uganda and either of the teams will join the Victoria Pearls in Saturday’s final when they play their last match of the round-robin today.

Nigeria however have a tougher route as they come up against the undefeated Uganda who had beaten them by five wickets on Monday, while Rwanda will play Botswana who also stunned Nigeria by 23 runs on Thursday.

The defeat against the least-ranked team in the tournament could cost the Female Yellow Greens unless they come up with a spirited performance against the Ugandans.

Nigeria won the toss of the game and elected to field first, but Botswana delivered an incredible batting which saw them post 114 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Nigeria couldn’t chase the score and had 91 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs to hand Botswana their first win of the tournament.
