SPORTS NEWSOsimhen set to reunite with former boss as PSG flop nears Napoli job

By Daily Sports Nigeria on June 16, 2023

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen may soon have Christophe Galtier as his new Napoli boss, as the former PSG coach is in pole position to become their new coach, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen had a great campaign at Napoli last season, helping the club to their first Scudetto in 33 years. He also became the first African to win the Capocannoniere, after his 26-goal haul.

However, coach Luciano Spalletti, who pushed them to success has left the club, and the Naples giants are desperately in search of a replacement.

Luis Enrique has been one of the biggest names on their list, but according to GFFN, former PSG coach Galtier is in pole position to become the new Napoli boss.

Osimhen already has a great history with Galtier, as the French tactician was his coach, during the 2019/20 season when he was at Lille. That season, he scored 13 goals and finished fifth on Ligue 1’s highest goalscorers’ charts. Lille finished fourth that season, but it was after that year that Napoli swooped him for the 24-year-old hitman.

However, Galtier and Osimhen’s paths may cross soon again, as Napoli could appoint the Frenchman as coach.

Galtier had an average season at PSG last season. He helped the club retain their league title, but he failed to impress in the French Cup and was humiliated out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich in the Round of 16. He was sacked after just one season.
