Seadogs end Games with donations to IDP Camp in Benin City

By Daily Sports on July 15, 2016

The National Association of Seadogs (NAS) ended their 2016 National Games held recently in Benin City with a visit to the International Christian Centre for Missions, one of the camps in the Edo State capital which harbour over 2,500  internally displaced persons (IDPs) from all over the country, to bring succour to the inhabitants.

The association had earlier discovered, through various visitations to the camp, prevalent diseases such as scabies, diarrhoea and protein deficiency ravaging the inhabitants and donated drugs, personal hygiene products and food for them.

According to Dr, Joseph Oteri, the association’s health co-ordinator, “Out of the 2,500 children and adults living there, our initial findings revealed that 900, mostly children, have scabies and some diarrhoea while some are also deficient in protein, hence the need for us to  donate drugs, and other items that will take care of these ailments.

“What we took there will treat about 400 of them. But we will deliver the rest within a week or two to take care of the remaining inhabitants.”

The pastor in charge of the Centre, Solomon Folorunsho, thanked NAS for the donation and noted that it was not the first time the association would extend such kind gestures. He urged well-meaning Nigerians and other non-governmental organisations to emulate the National Association of Seadogs’ drive to make life better for the internally displaced persons.

NAS President, Prince Ifeanyi Onochie, in a related chat emphasised the association’s zeal to always impact on communities that are long neglected; particularly men, women and children who were made to flee the restiveness of the North East brought about by the menace of Boko Haram insurgency.

He announced NAS plans to also visit two more IDP centres around Abuja in the next one month to donate essential items to them too.
