Flying Eagles keeper Aniagboso joins Ukrainian club

By Daily Sports Nigeria on May 31, 2023

Newly promoted Ukrainian Premier League club FC Polissya Zhytomyr have announced the capture of Flying Eagles goalkeeper, Chijoke Aniagboso.

Multiple reports say the 19-year-old goalkeeper has put pen to paper on a five-year deal that will keep him at Polissya Zhytomyr until the end of the 2027/28 season.

Polissya Zhytomyr were crowned champions of the Persha Liha at the weekend following a 2-1 win over LNZ Cherkasy.

“The 19-year-old goalkeeper is a bronze medalist of the 2023 U-20 African Cup of Nations. He was involved in six games at the tournament and also currently represents his country at the U-20 World Cup. Aniagboso will arrive before the 2023/24 season preparation,” the club confirmed on its website.

Aniagboso has gone the distance in every single game played by the Flying Eagles at the ongoing U-20 World Cup, posting a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Italy, while conceding three goals.

The 19-year-old shone at the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, where he posted four clean sheets in five games.

He was a shock inclusion in the Super Eagles’ 23-man squad for Nigeria’s 2023 AFCON qualifying double-header against Guinea-Bissau last March. He was an unused substitute in both games.

With a squad currently made of Ukrainians, Polissya Zhytomyr have been scouting at the ongoing U-20 World Cup in Argentina, having previously announced the signing of Gambia U-20 defender, Moses Jarjue, who penned a pre-contract with the Ukrainian club and will join them July 1.
